2301E Digital Load Sharing and Speed Control

The Woodward 2301E is a microprocessor-based load sharing and speed control for generators driven by diesel or gaseous engines. Building on the proven 2301A/2301D platform, the 2301E adds flexible software configuration via PC, four selectable operating modes, and Modbus RTU communication for DCS integration.

2301E Digital Load Sharing and Speed Control

Key Features

Operating Modes

  • Speed Control — multiple dynamics flexibility, works on pumps and compressors, remote 4–20 mA speed reference
  • Isochronous Load Sharing — compatible with existing analog systems, soft load and unload capability
  • Droop Base Load — adjustable load control via discrete raise/lower contacts
  • Isochronous Base Load — constant load against utility bus, fixed or remote 4–20 mA load setting

I/O

  • 1 load sensor circuit
  • 1 actuator driver (4–20 mA, 0–20 mA, 0–200 mA, or PWM)
  • 1 MPU speed sensor
  • 1 configurable analog output, 2 configurable analog inputs
  • 8 discrete (switch) inputs, 4 discrete (relay driver) outputs
  • Modbus RTU via RS-422

Configuration

  • Configured via Control Assistant software or ToolKit service tool
  • Configuration software downloadable from Woodward website
  • RS-232 port for PC connection, RS-422 for Modbus control
  • 24 Vdc supply, operating range –40 to +70 °C

Applications

  • Diesel and gas engine generator sets
  • Pump and compressor speed control
  • Power generation load sharing systems
  • Utility-paralleled and isolated bus configurations
